TI / CSI Calculator — Radioactive Material
IATA DGR Section 10.5 — Transport Index (TI) and Criticality Safety Index (CSI) calculation tool. Enter dose rates per package to automatically determine TI, CSI, and label category. PAX/CAO limit checks are performed instantly.
Transport Index (TI)
TI = Dose Rate (mSv/h @ 1m) × 100
- • Maximum dose rate measured at 1 m distance
- • Example: 0.025 mSv/h → TI = 2.5
- • Written on the package label (decimal, rounded up)
Criticality Safety Index (CSI)
CSI = 50 / N
- • N = minimum number of packages for criticality
- • Only for fissile material (U-235, Pu-239, etc.)
- • Fissile-Excepted: CSI = 0
Label Category Table (Table 10.5.C)
| Category | TI | Surface Dose Rate | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| I-WHITE | 0 (<0.05) | ≤ 5 µSv/h | Lowest level |
| II-YELLOW | ≤ 1 | ≤ 500 µSv/h | Low-medium level |
| III-YELLOW | ≤ 10 | ≤ 2000 µSv/h | High level |
Package List
Package #1
Yes (U-235, Pu-239, etc.)
Disclaimer: This calculator is for informational purposes only. Actual transport requires radiation measurements with calibrated dosimetry equipment. Exclusive use shipments may permit single package TI > 10. Always consult the applicable competent authority and airline operator requirements.
